i must admit, i'm still getting used to shopping for non-food class gift options. everytime there's a holiday celebration at school, my mind immediately goes to candy or some kind of fun treat (maybe that's just the fat kid in me) like cookies or lollipops. unfortunately, my son's school does not allow any outside food to be passed out as class gifts. i can only assume that this is due to allergies. in that respect, i totally get it. my son doesn't have any known allergies, but i can surely empathize with parents whose children do. however, it's becoming increasingly harder to find non-food items to pass out for school parties. perhaps that's just my lack of imagination or underlying desire for an excuse to buy sugary treats but either way, amazon has become my go-to for ideas.
for us, the next holiday celebration is easter and what's more easter than baskets of candy?! le sigh* after a quick search of "non-food classroom gifts for easter," i came across these super cool cartons of EGG-PERIMENTS. forgive me, i do LOVE a good pun!
my son is in the second grade and he lives for science experiments and really anything to do with mixing things together - i.e. making "potions" with my jo malone bath oils. these pre-packed eggs have super cool activities inside (like making snow, slime and water beads) and come out to about $1.70 a piece. i have an extremely hard time buying gifts just to buy gifts. i always think about the practicality of what we hand out - is this something that the kids can or will use? or is it just something that will eventually find it's way into our garbage or worse, make a home in one of our endless toy bins? i know from experience how difficult it is to toss or donate any of the kids belongings and then the well-intentioned gifts become unnecessary clutter. but thats a post for another time...
so, if you're looking for non-food items to pass out for the spring/easter season, here's my suggestion!
